The makeup pro who counts Natalie Portman and Margot Robbie as clients calls it “a game changer.”
“I was a little skeptical at first because it reminded me of a chicken cutlet,” laughs Pati Dubroff when chatting about the MakeupDrop ($20), an applicator made of medical-grade silicone designed to eliminate wasted makeup. She adds, “I started playing with it and realized there was really something to it.”
While sponge or brush applicators soak up large amounts of liquid formulas and serums, the teardrop-shaped product promises consumers they only need to use half the amount of foundation they regularly need since none of the product is absorbed on the applicator. Dubroff used the silicone drop to create Priyanka Chopra and Kate Bosworth’s wow-worthy Met Gala beauty moments and longtime client Natalie Portman’s SAG red-carpet look. Chrissy Teigen’s makeup artist Patrick Ta is also a fan.
The silicone tool is nontoxic and can be cleaned using just soap and water or makeup wipes, another big selling product for the celebrity beauty pro. “Sponges and brushes can be so unsanitary, and they start to pull your skin,” says Dubroff. “The most important thing for my clients is that I’m making sure that I’m not hurting their skin, and that can happen if you are using dirty applicators.” Another perk? The versatility. It can be used to distribute sunscreens, serums, blush, highlighters and even lipstick. “I’m all about streamlining my kit as much as possible,” she says.

Another go-to for Dubroff this summer is a good sunscreen. She recommends spraying Soleil Troujours organic Set+ Protect Micro Mist in SPF 30 over tinted moisturizer without fear of looking greasy. “I found it when I was staying at a hotel in Miami and I am so impressed,” she says.
When it comes to favorite summer looks Dubroff has created, Margot Robbie comes to mind immediately: “I did a monochromatic face in peach tones on her, and it was so dreamy and bright!”
